Lisa Nürnberger

biography

Lisa Nürnberger (*1996, Chemnitz) lives and works in Frankfurt am Main. Working across drawing, painting, sculpture, performance, film and sound, her practice is characterised by an openness towards experimentation and a resistance to fixed categorisation. Material contingencies and the immediacy of the first attempt frequently become productive elements within her process. Nürnberger draws on forms, materials and motifs encountered in her immediate surroundings, extracting them from their familiar contexts and translating them into new visual and spatial constellations. Through playful interventions and subtle shifts, her works oscillate between recognition and estrangement, inviting viewers to reconsider habitual ways of seeing. Particular attention is given to surfaces, patterns and traces of use. Scratches, imperfections and moments of disruption become strategies for exposing hidden structures and creating situations in which perception remains fluid and unstable. Nürnberger studied in the Department of Free Spatial Concepts at the Hochschule für Gestaltung Offenbach under Prof. Heiner Blum and Prof. Gunter Reski from 2017 to 2022. From 2023 to 2024, she continued her studies at the Städelschule in Frankfurt am Main in the sculpture class of Prof. Tobias Rehberger.
